Cheney's futuristic book is thrilling to read. It is engaging, creative and imaginative. Her talent as a writer shines. Her vivid book is one of suspense, Scripture, and surprise. There is great consistency in the plot and character development. She employs excellent technique intertwining the multiple individual lives of the characters on their various planets. Her building of a great storyline is evident and coherent. She exhibits excellent creativity with names of characters, planets and places. I especially like the ingenious play on words with names such as Locitan and his three main minions, Woevil, Vexid, and Griop; but also on the positive side with names containing biblical meaning and weightiness. I consider this to be superb creative writing and dialogue with captivating scenarios and broad usage of descriptive words to paint each scene. Good character development and good utilization of a range of emotion make this book quite enjoyable. This work is futuristic, yet relatable and realistic, touching on scientific and historic parts, and its running thread of biblical truth holding it all together.

V.C. Cheney’s book: ‘Under The Purple Sky, The Oracles of Zion’ is a wonderful addition to the collections of Christian Science Fiction. The world she writes of is full of vibrant young people. One who lives on an ideal paradise of God’s promise in our Galaxy and another on a planet struggling with darkness and not yet redeemed. The story takes place as one young lady Daleah Inara Joyce has just been accepted into the Academy a dream of hers. Haro Lametz Gallant is dealing with the recent loss of his beloved Father and the discovery of a forbidden object. A Pen with ink and papers with handwritten to him. With friendly wolves, flying horses, skies of amazing colors and travel from world to world in an instant with a mystery to solve. Young people and young at heart will thrill at the mysteries and the solving of them as they go about living God’s calling. All as they come to age while finding hidden mysteries on each world to bring them answers.

"Under the Purple Sky" is a Christian/Messianic Science Fiction/Fantasy story set in the far future. Cheney writes memorable scenes that make you want to be there for real, creates adult and teen characters that you want to be friends with, and other beings that you'll just have to read to encounter! The plot has some nice details and twists that make for enjoyable reading. I particularly appreciated the deaf character, being deaf myself, and the Hebrew blessings. Recommended!

I found Under the Purple Sky to be an interesting, imaginative, and witty fantasy for teenagers that teaches some important Biblical lessons. Cheney did a great job of building an imaginary, yet believable universe. As I'm deaf myself, I also enjoyed the deaf character in the story.
